Judge Donald “DJ” Cannava was appointed to the 11th Judicial Circuit County Court bench in 2011 and has been a member of the Florida Bar since 1994. He is currently a Judge in the Domestic Violence Division and has previously served in the Miami Beach criminal and civil divisions. Judge Cannava started his legal career in 1993 serving our community as an Assistant State Attorney in Miami-Dade County. After over a decade in the private sector, Judge Cannava returned to public service in his capacity as Deputy Statewide Director and Regional Director at the Department of Children and Families/Children's Legal Services.
Judge Cannava's judicial responsibilities include presiding over all aspects of domestic violence criminal cases, serving as an acting Circuit Court judge for civil injunction hearings and presiding over the Domestic Violence Drug Court. Prior to his appointment, Judge Cannava was honored as the recipient of the 2011 Robert L. Shevin Public Service Award and was a Finalist (Runner up) for the Daily Business Review’s 6th Annual Most Effective Attorney Award in 2010.
